For six days in June of 2006 in Vancouver Canada, 5000 delegates mobilized from 90 countries to do no less than revise the paradigm of peace and take the steps necessary to create a world without war.
A group of citizen journalists and filmmakers attended the event to seek out credible voices that could describe the challenges facing the world’s largest ever social movement. The result was over 120 hours of footage featuring interviews with politicians, scientists, activists, thinkers, musicians and everyday people.
The many streams of thought that shape the modern day peace movement inform the tones of this film. Structured as a sequence of vignettes, the diverse narrative challenges the viewer to discover the common threads between current global issues for themselves. After all, peace must start within.
INTERNATIONAL “THINK PEACE” DAY
On February 15th, 2003 the largest protest in human history occurred. Millions of people from all seven continents marched down the street of more than 800 cities to show that they did not support the invasion of Iraq.
While the protesters failed to stop the invasion of Iraq, they successfully united millions of pacifists globally and raised the issue of peace as a value that is embraced everywhere. Patrick Tyler, of the New York Times wrote:
“ ...the huge anti-war demonstrations around the world this weekend are reminders that there may still be two superpowers on the planet: the United States and world public opinion.”
On February 15 we ask that you share with us in celebrating the “other
superpower”, people like us, who spoke out in the name of peace. We ask that you honour the spirit that lies with the thoughts of people, like us, who help bring peace to the world through their actions. We ask that you join us in declaring that February 15th be known internationally as “Think Peace” Day.
How will you celebrate?
